How long do they last?
While dental veneers are not considered a permanent solution, they can last up to ten years or more with the right care. To make sure that your dental veneers remain in good condition for a long time, we recommend that you commit to good oral hygiene habits. This means brushing and flossing your teeth on a regular basis, and seeing your dentist for regular check-ups and cleans. It is also a good idea to avoid using your teeth as tools as this can cause damage to your veneers — don’t try and open packaging with your teeth, for example, and avoid chewing on very hard foods and objects like ice.
Why consider dental veneers?
There are a number of benefits to having dental veneers placed. The treatment is a highly effective means of repairing issues like chips, cracks and breaks in the teeth. Veneers can also be used to close unwanted gaps between the teeth; resolve unevenly shape teeth; and conceal discoloured and stained teeth. With the help of dental veneers, it is possible to improve the appearance of one’s smile quite dramatically.
What does the process involve?
If you choose to have dental veneers placed, you will have the option of having your veneers fabricated in a laboratory, or in the dentist’s chair. If you choose porcelain veneers, you will need to come in for multiple appointments. First, your dentist will make impressions of your teeth, which will be sent to a dental laboratory. Your dentist will then prepare your teeth by reshaping the surface — this ensures that the veneers will fit properly. Temporary veneers may be placed while you wait for your porcelain veneers to be made. When your permanent veneers are ready, your dentist will bond them to the surface of your teeth and adjust the fit and colour for a natural-looking appearance.
If you choose to have composite veneers placed, you do not need to have your veneers made in a laboratory. Instead, you will need just one appointment in which the veneers are made and fitted in your dentist’s chair.
